How It Works

Commissioning an Inkling is simple. Choose the style you love, send your reference images, and I’ll take it from there.

1. Choose Your Inkling

Explore the collections and choose your portrait style, format, and size. Once you’ve found the one that feels right, place your order through the website.

2. Send Your Reference Images

After your order is placed, you’ll receive a confirmation email with the next steps.

Send one or several reference images to info@theinklingstudio.com. If you’re unsure which one will translate best, I’m happy to help you choose.

You can also include names, dates, short wording, or other details you’d like me to consider.

3. Illustrating Your Inkling

This is where I take my time.

I sit with your reference images, looking closely at the features and small details that make the person recognizable, before illustrating your Inkling in the style you selected.

4. See It Before It’s Made

Once your Inkling draft is ready, you’ll receive a watermarked preview to review before anything goes into physical production.

The preview lets you see the completed illustration and make sure the likeness, composition, and overall feel are right. You’ll have the opportunity to review your Inkling and request any included adjustments before giving your approval.

Once approved, your illustration moves into physical production, where it is brought to life in your selected format with the added detail, texture, and finishing specific to your piece.

Nothing goes into physical production without your approval.

5. Choose How Your Inkling Lives

Your approved Inkling can take several forms, from our signature hand-finished canvas to keepsakes made to share, gift, and enjoy.

Signature Mixed-Media Canvas

Our signature format and the fullest expression of an Inkling.

Once you have reviewed and approved your watermarked preview, your finished illustration is transferred onto hand-stretched canvas. I then work directly onto the surface with paint, ink, texture, and carefully placed highlights, adding depth and dimension to the finished piece.

Because each canvas is individually hand-finished, no two are exactly alike.

Available in 8 × 10, 16 × 20, and 24 × 30.

Custom Puzzles

Turn your Inkling into something to gift, gather around, and enjoy together.

Available as a 30-piece kids puzzle, 252-piece classic puzzle, or 500-piece keepsake puzzle.

Final dimensions may vary slightly depending on artwork orientation and production partner.

4 × 6 Keepsake Cards

A smaller way to send, share, or hold onto your Inkling.

Our 4 × 6 illustrated cards can become postcards, holiday cards, thank-you notes, announcements, gift inserts, or little pieces of art to frame and keep.

Available in sets of 10, 25, or 50.

6. Made & Sent Your Way

Once you approve your Inkling, your selected format moves into production. You’ll receive shipping information when your order is on its way.

U.S. shipping is free on orders over $75.

International Orders

Yes, Inkling travels.

International orders may be fulfilled by trusted regional production partners to help reduce shipping times and customs delays. Every order is produced using artwork approved by The Inkling Studio.

Turnaround Time

Every Inkling is made to order, and I want to give each one the time and attention it deserves.

Artwork & Draft Preview: [4-6 business days]

Production After Approval: [5–10 business days]

Shipping: [3-5 business days]

Turnaround times may vary slightly during holidays and other busy periods. If you need your Inkling by a particular date, please get in touch before ordering and I’ll let you know what is possible.

Approval, Refunds & Custom Work

I want you to feel confident about your Inkling before it becomes a finished physical piece. That’s why you’ll always receive a watermarked draft to review before physical production begins.

Before approval: Take a close look at your preview and let me know if something doesn’t feel quite right. I’ll work with you to refine the illustration so the likeness, composition, and overall feel are where they need to be.

After approval: Once you approve your Inkling, your selected physical piece moves into production, where the final detail, texture, and hand-finished elements are added.

Because every Inkling is created specifically for you, your approval is what gives me the go-ahead to begin physical production. If your finished piece arrives damaged or with a production issue, please get in touch and I’ll work with you to make it right.
